The CBI on Wednesday summoned Dr Anita Durrani and her husband Dr Praful Durrani for questioning. The couple was grilled for several hours. This is the first time the two were summoned to the CBI headquarters. The Durranis reached the CBI headquarters at CGO Complex around 6 pm and remained there till late in the night. It is learnt that the two were also subjected to a psycho-analysis test even though a senior CBI officer involved in the investigation did not confirm it. “We have questioned them and there are certain irregularities in the statements made by them and the Talwars. The Durranis are very close to the Talwars and we were hoping that they would provide some information which would be useful for us. If need be, we will subject the Durranis and Nupur Talwar to joint questioning,” said the official, adding that Nupur may be questioned again on Thursday in the presence of the Durranis. Anita, sources said, told CBI that the Talwars seemed to be very fond of their daughter and that they had a very normal relationship with her.

In another development, which was not confirmed by CBI officials, the investigators are also looking at the possibility that Aarushi’s murder may have been a contract killing. It is learnt that Aarushi’s mother Nupur withdrew Rs 26,000 from her HDFC Bank account two days before the murder. The CBI on Wednesday again questioned Talwars’ driver Umesh and took him to the HDFC Bank branch in Noida where Nupur has an account. The agency also took him to several other places which were frequented by the Talwars. Sources said the CBI asked the bank to provide them with Nupur and Rajesh’s latest bank statements. While this was officially denied by the CBI, sources said that Rajesh Talwar received a call on his mobile from a man, later identified as a UP criminal, a day after the murder. This alleged criminal was apparently on the radar of Delhi Police who were scanning his mobile phone records. The Delhi cops are then said to have passed on the information to the CBI. CBI official said Nupur was questioned about the amount withdrawn before the murder and she said that it was meant to buy some surgical equipment.

 Though the CBI claims that Dr Talwar’s compounder-cum-receptionist Krishna has made a “confessional” statement, admitting to his role in the double murders, Krishna‘s neighbours and landlord in Noida are not willing to buy the theory. “Krishna has been framed, possibly to save some big fish,” said a resident of Block-L, Jalvayu Vihar. And that’s the predominant mood in the colony. In fact, his landlord, K N Johri, a retired air force personnel, and his wife have put off their visit to Singapore just to stay back and support Krishna and his family. “My family knows Krishna since he was about 14 years old. My wife, Rekha, brought him and his sister up. She used to teach them at home. And, there is no way we can believe he could commit a murder,” Johri told TOI on Wednesday. According to sources, a prominent Delhi lawyer, who is currently in London, has decided to represent him in the case. Said Johri: “Krishna has to be saved at any cost. There has to be someone willing to back a poor man in getting justice. We will not abandon him at this stage.” Krishna‘s sister, Parvati, works at the residence of Johri’s daughter, who stays in Singapore. Krishna, his niece Sunita, nephew Sandeep and brother-in-law, Jaideep, live in a room at the Johri residence. The accommodation’s like the one Hemraj lived in at the Talwar residence, just 40 yards away from Johri’s. It is learnt that Johri, who goes for morning walk daily, was just leaving his house when he noticed heavy police presence at the Talwars’. He went up to their house to check what had happened, and learnt about the gruesome murders. Johri then returned home and informed Krishna. “When I told him about the murders, he appeared genuinely shocked,’ Johri said.The judicial custody of Dr Rajesh Talwar, Aarushi’s father, ended on Thursday and he was produced in a local court by the CBI.Refusing to give him a clean chit, the CBI told the court that Dr Talwar’s involvement in the murder of Aarushi and Hemraj was not ruled out. While demanding his custody for one day, the investigating agency told the court that it wanted to conduct a polygraph test of Dr Talwar on June 20.

Meanwhile, in a related development on Thursday, CBI sleuths detained the domestic help of the Durranis, Rajkumar, for questioning.

The CBI is however not very convinced with the above sequence of events.How could a 1 ft long metal object be flushes in a toilet?Where are the destroyed mobile phones?Moreover, Rajkumar and Aarushi hardly met each other or interacted with each other.And who is the third person Shambhu.It is a possibility that Krishna has give only half the facts of that night when the murder took place.

Talwar’s maid Bharti and driver Umesh were also summoned for questioning.

Sunil Dore, one of the two doctors who conducted the autopsy, was asked about his findings, including the manner in which Aarushi’s throat was slit, a CBI official said.

When asked about the questioning, Dore refused to comment, saying: “The matter is under investigation and I cannot say anything about it at the moment.”

Naresh Raj, the other doctor who conducted the autopsy, was also questioned.

“Bharti was picked up this morning and questioned,” CBI sources said. The interrogation lasted 45 minutes.

The twin murders were discovered May 16 after Bharti arrived at the Talwar’s upscale Jal Vayu Vihar apartment for her daily chores.

The Noida police initially named domestic help Hemraj as the prime suspect, but retracted after his body was found on the terrace of the house the next day.

Aarushi’s father Rajesh Talwar, a prominent dentist, was arrested May 23. Police said Talwar killed his daughter in a fit of rage as he objected to her closeness with Hemraj. Police said Talwar first killed Hemraj and then his daughter.

The CBI made a second arrest June 13 when it held Krishna, the compounder in Talwar’s clinic. The agency says Krishna has confessed to being involved in the twin murders.

The agency had previously questioned Aruna Durani in her Noida apartment. She was summoned on Tuesday to verify her previous statements, the CBI official said.

As for the driver, Umesh Sharma, he was taken to a bank in Noida’s Sector-18.

“He was taken to the bank to verify some transactions. Aarushi’s mother (Nupur Talwar) also has an account in the same bank but we did not examine that,” the CBI official said.

Meanhwile, Krishna’s lawyer F.C. Sharma said Wednesday that the compounder had confessed only as a witness and not as an accused in the crime.

As the CBI submitted before a court Tuesday that it had obtained, under section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), a confessional statement from Krishna in which he had admitted his crime, it was clear that the agency intended to turn him into an approver or a witness, lawyer F.C. Sharma maintained.

“Section 161 of CrPC applies for a witness and section 162 applies for the accused. As the CBI has stated that they recorded his statement under section 161 of CrPC, it means Krishna is a witness not an accused,” he said.

The CBI was not available for comment.

“Krishna has confessed to his involvement in the crime along with others,” the CBI said in a statement submitted in the court of special judge Sapna Mishra Tuesday, even as it sought his custody for 11 days. The judge allowed only six days.

“Krishna revealed that Hemraj had asked him to bring a ‘khukri’ (Nepali curved knife) when he came to Talwar’s residence at around midnight on May 14. He said he had taken the khukri himself,” the CBI statement said.

Legal experts contended that the CBI might have extracted a confession from Krishna but this was not admissible in court since it had been recorded before a police officer under section 161 of the CrPC. Only statements recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the code are admissible as evidence.

The CBI will now produce Krishna before the court on June 23.

Dr.Malini had conducted psycho-analysis test on Dr.Talwar yesterday.CBI has had a talk with her.What went on in their meeting is yet to be disclosed.

Forensic medicine is the application of knowledge of medical science and scientific principles for the investigation of crime to assist law enforcement agencies.It usually involves as samples biological material e.g. blood, saliva, etc.Proper results can be obtained provided the samples have not been tampered with or undergone degradation due to long exposure to the environment.The press is therefore questioning the CBI’s stress on forensic tests at this moment after such a huge time of almost a month.The results of the forensic test would therefore not be a strong proof as the crime scene was open to one and all since the victims were found dead, instead of being made a restricted area only for the investigators.

This case has proved to be one of India’s biggest murder mystery, with every new revelation bringing in more questions to be solved.As correctly titled in one of the news channels “Us Raat ka Subaah Nahi”.

The Noida police did not make use of any scientific methods during their investigation and even this knife went out of their purview somewhat surprisingly, even though Krishna and family had clearly stated that they own such a knife.Krishna’s family had however stated that such a knife is available in all Nepali households and the one they have is not sharp enough to be used in a murder. On the other hand , the CBI has a strong belief that more than one weapon might have been used in the murder one of them being a blunt knife- the latter which could also have been used to hit the vicims 2-3 times leading to their unconsciousness.

The case diary which is the bible of any investigation shows the Noida police built a case full of loose ends.

” Dr. Rajesh Talwar entered Aarushi’s room at around 11.30pm and saw Aarushi and Hemraj in an objectionable position which he didn’t like and killed both,” says Gurudarshan Singh, IG, Meerut.

But their own case diary points to a different story. NDTV has seen the entire diary.

The computer records show clearly that the computerin Aarushi’s room was used from 10:46 pm to access emails of Dr Rajesh Talwar and one email was also sent from his ID at 11:37 pm. The two websites visited were a property website and a website on dentistry, the American Academy of implants dentistry.

His cell phone records also show that at 11:00 pm, he made a call to the same dentistry academy in the United States. It was the same time, when according to the police he was plotting to kill his daughter and domestic help.

These records are corroborated by his wife Nupur Talwar’s statement, where she says that her husband was using the internetin Aarushi’s room because he was unhappy with the speed of his Reliance data card.

Yet the police chose to ignore the evidence. Another crucial difference at the press conference IG Gurdarshan Singh said Dr Talwar returned at 11:30 pm and went to Aarushi’s room and found her talking to Hemraj.

But their own case diary which contains the police application given to court asking for his remand has a completely different time.

Dr Rajesh Talwar went to Aarushi’s room at 1 am and found Hemraj there, that is one-and-half hour later than stated. It is unclear how the police learnt that Hemraj feared for his life.

The post-mortem report fails to specify the time of death.

It says Dr Talwar went into Aarushi’s room at 1 am and found Hemraj there, that’s one and a half hour later than originally stated. And there is no mention of him having left the house.

The case diary also does not include statements by Hemraj’s son-in-law Jeevan or the Talwar receptionist Krishna both of whom were in police custody for days. So, it is unclear, where the police learnt that Hemraj feared for his life.

Perhaps the biggest lapse if investigatorswant to establish the time is that they cannot bank on the postmortem reports of Aarushi and Hemraj.

The reports don’t specify the time of death. So it’s hard to determine whether the Talwars were awake at the time.

The CBI, say sources, is extremely unhappy with the way the post-mortem was conducted .It’s an investigation which has been virtually criminal in its lapses yet the police went public in their indictment of Aarushi’s father and almost a month after the murder there still are many, many more questions than answers in one of India’s most mystifying murder cases.

Meanwhile the CBI in the process of investigation is doing another search of the Talwar house in Noida even breaking open the roof top drain pipes.However latest news reports indicate that nothing conclusive has been found. Forensic tests also will be conducted on Krishna’s belongings.

The servant of Durrani Family-Rajkumar is currently being interrogated after his mobile phone was seized yesterday night by the CBI.When asked whether Rajkumar was taken by CBI and whether he is suspected in the murder, Dr.Durrani bluntly said that he is not aware of anything.There seems to be a lot of loopholes in the investigation done by the Noida police.With a lot of crucial eveidence already being cleared up, intentionally or intentionally which still remains to be seen, the CBI has taken up a difficult task.

The Durrani’s, Nupur Talwar, Dinesh Talwar and some neighbours of the Talwar’s are suspected of having some clue about the murderer. It may well be stated here that Rajesh Talwar has been lodged in Dasna jail since last month as a suspect in this sensational murder case.
